We (two brothers and a sister) are avid racers (with several national sailing titles) AND big time BVI charterers since the 80's. When researching the boat to buy for ourselves and to charter out, it had to have performance without loosing comfort. The Bavaria 50 with a few enhancements was an easy decision.

For Performance:
Moby was outfitted with a deeper lead fin keel and a higher aspect sail plan (taller mast) than typical charter boats. Most charter boats have a cast metal shorter keel. This makes Moby a more stable yet better performing boat (and less rolly on the mooring ball).
We enjoyed the stability of some catamarans, but the loss of performance was too much to compromise. It's nice to look out over the horizon and know your sailing one of the fastest boats in sight.
In fact, moby continues a winning record in the Antigua Race Week regatta, (one of the worlds largest most prestigious regattas) including a win in the cruiser class in the 2008 regatta. Moby's performance over the years in this historic race can be summed up in this quote from Sailing Week, "Bareboat II class continues to be dominated by Moby, the Bavaria 50..." Or take a look here to see Moby featured on this article from Caribbean Sailing.
We custom ordered and launched Moby in 2001, and have maintained her in tip top condition.
Moby looks, feels, and sails like a new boat, but your wallet would never know.
When you're not sailing, the engine is a 100HP turbo charged diesel that gets you where you want fast.
For Comfort:
In addition to keeping all the factory installed comforts that Bavaria yachts are known for, we've added 6" quality foam bedding (normal is 3") for the main births, and a great stereo system with auxiliary mp3 (ipod) input jacks. All cushions/bedding in the boat have been reupholstered in 2009. Eight cockpit cushions, and a unique aft life line padded back rest for the captain, along with finger tip auto pilot control.
The deep keel keeps the boat from rocking much at night, and has never kept us from mooring outside of Neptune's Treasure at Anegada!
